This is my city as seen from a Panoramic webcam which overlooks
the Wellington harbour and CBD district
This is the apartment block where I live in the city. Right in the main CBD area. Close to the university, theatre, concert halls, shops etc. Perfect...
This is Victoria University of Wellington (VUW Kelburn Campus) where I study music and graduated with my Bachelor of Music.
My music school (the Kelburn Campus of the New Zealand School of Music) is just behind some of those buildings but we use lecture rooms in the ones you can see as well as theatres, library and other main campus facilities.
VUW has a number of campuses around the city. The Law & Commerce Campus is downtown near the courts and main CBD area, The Architecture Campus is also down town close to the CBD, The Education Campus is out in one of the suburbs . There are also research centres and labs at various locations more suitable to their function. i. e. the Marine & Oceanic Labs are down by the ocean.
The New Zealand School of Music school is part of both Victoria University and Massey University. It is a jointly ran music school. The music school as 2 main locations in the city. The VUW Kelburn one above and other attached to Wellington Massey University Campus.
Massey University location is hard to pick from the webcam but is indicated in the picture to left.
It is hoped that eventually, when funding becomes available, that we will have our own combined centrally located campus. It is planned to build a new purpose built one right next to the arts and cultural centre of the city but, as is frequently the issue, funding is the problem.
It is a shame as having the combined campus would make life so much easier and better for the staff and students. It would also be located right next to major theatre & concert hall buildings, libraries, art galleries etc. It is also right next to the home of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra - who provide us with so many fabulous, world class musicians as tutors and visiting international guests.
Weir House..
One of the first year student accommodation buildings.
Grand old dormitory building just down the road from the University and really close to the main city centre. It has been there a long while.
I have never stayed there but many of the younger students I study with have.
