[ Tenor - Rob Hoy | Lead - Robbie Lane| Bari - Antony Currington | Bass - Pat Savage ]
Born in London, UK, in 1973, Robbie’s mother always stated at his birth that he was either going to be a “town crier” or an “opera singer” – so he was always born with a pair of lungs. Robbie studied music through high school and studied classical singing under Gilbert Wieberg and Helen Charlton in Christchurch. Robbie has always had an interest in a range of choral styles and sang in the Music Society Choir, Madrigal Singers and the Campus Choir while studying at Canterbury University. Some of these influences he hopes will come through in the developing repertoire of Fusion. Robbie was first exposed to barbershop singing with the Canterbury Plainsmen in 1989, but only began singing barbershop after joining the Wellington-based Harbour Capital Chorus in early 1999 as a baritone. His first quartet experience was singing lead in a mixed quartet called Generations in 1999. Robbie switched to sing lead in 2000 and helped form Raven in that year along with Rob, the tenor of Fusion. Robbie is currently being groomed as an Assistant Director in the Harbour Capital Chorus. Robbie holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington earning his keep working for the New Zealand Ministry of Health in implementing a group B meningococcal vaccine campaign. Outside work and barbershop Robbie is a competitive badminton player and a dedicated 'chocoholic'. |
